Interim Executive Leadership

When your organization is between leaders, momentum doesn't have to stop.

A leadership transition — sudden or planned — puts everything else on hold: strategic priorities stall, staff look for direction, and boards are left managing day-to-day decisions they didn’t sign up for. Whatever brought you here — a founder’s departure, an unexpected resignation, or a planned succession — the need is the same: steady, capable leadership that keeps the organization moving while the next chapter takes shape.

What Interim Leadership Provides

Interim leadership is its own discipline, distinct from permanent executive leadership — it requires a different set of skills focused on stabilization, rapid trust-building, and preparing an organization for what comes next. An interim executive isn’t a placeholder. It’s an opportunity to stabilize operations, strengthen what’s underneath the organization, and walk into the next leadership era stronger than before.

During an interim engagement, I step in to:

Provide immediate operational stability and clear day-to-day leadership
Maintain staff confidence and organizational momentum through the transition
Partner with the board on succession planning and the search for permanent leadership
Identify and address structural or governance gaps the organization may not have had bandwidth to see
Position the incoming leader for a strong, well-supported start

Michelle joined during a significant time of leadership transition and brought structure and operational discipline — strengthening the foundation that carried our organization into its next chapter.

A Track Record Through Real Transitions

I’ve served as interim executive leader three times, including guiding an organization through the early uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, and I’m a trained graduate of Third Sector’s Interim Leadership Academy. In each case, the goal was the same: protect what matters most while the organization moves toward its next chapter — not just holding steady, but coming out the other side ready to grow.
